The 2nd International Conference of Smart Systems & Emerging Technologies (SMARTTECH 2022) was held on May 9 - 11, 2022 at Prince Sultan University. The conference provided an excellent forum, which contributed new results in all areas of artificial intelligence, internet-of-things, emerging technologies, unmanned systems, communication and networking, and cyber-security in line with technological advances in the kingdom under the umbrella of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030.
The conference focused on all technical and practical aspects of smart systems and emerging technologies with applications in real-world and scientific problems. The event was designed to provide academia, industry, government bodies, and private sector organizations with a forum to collaborate and further data mining-related research.
The conference invited original research contributions related to six tracks: Artificial Intelligence, Internet-of-Things (IoT), Emerging Technologies, Unmanned Systems, Communication and Networking, Cyber-security.
Despite being its second edition and the COVID-19 global-scale pandemic, the conference succeeded in attracting a large number of quality submissions from different countries. Huge efforts have been made by the program committee to provide a timely and thorough review of all submissions.
To maintain quality, all submitted papers went through a blind peer-review process with at least two comprehensive reviews for each paper to determine the originality, novelty, and quality of contributions before acceptance for publication in conference proceedings.
The conference received 81 full paper submissions where only 42 papers have been included for publication after a rigorous peer-review process with at least two thorough reviews per paper. The acceptance ratio in this second edition is 52%.
The Technical Program Committees worked hard to ensure that the quality of the conference remains high to provide a valuable and informative program. High-profile and distinguished international keynote speakers were invited to provide keynote speeches on the hottest areas of artificial intelligence, information and communication technologies, and unmanned systems.
The keynote speakers at SMARTTECH 2022 were: Moncef Gabbouj, Tampere University, Finland; Giuseppe Loianno, New York University, United States; Christian Claudel, University of Texas at Austin, United States; Muhammad Ali Imran, University of Glasgow, United Kingdom.
A special panel discussion session was also organized during SMARTTECH 2022. Moderated by Lahouari Ghouti from Prince Sultan University, the session titled Leveraging Unmanned Aerial Systems and Artificial Intelligence featured four panelists: Mokhles Mezghani, Saudi Aramco, Saudi Arabia; Bilal Siddiqui, Woot Tech Company, Pakistan; Sami Elferik, King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals, Saudi Arabia; Anis Koubaa, Prince Sultan University, Saudi Arabia.
